URGENT: Global Shipping Advisory

Impact of Middle East Transit Suspensions on East Coast and West

Coast Logistics Please be advised of critical updates regarding global maritime operations. Due to escalating regional instability, Steamship Lines (SSLs) have officially suspended all export bookings for East Coast services traveling to Asia via the Strait of Hormuz, effective March 1, 2026. To help you navigate these changes, we have outlined the primary impacts on transit times, costs, and alternative routing:

1. Mandatory Route Diversions

All vessels currently enroute that previously utilized the Middle East passage are being diverted around the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa).

Impact: This adds significant mileage to the voyage.

Delay Expectation: Please anticipate an additional 10 to 15 days of transit time beyond standard schedules.

2. New Operational Surcharges

To account for the increased distance and heightened safety protocols, SSLshave implemented new surcharges. These fees cover: Substantially higher fuel consumption (operating costs). Increased war-risk insurance premiums for East Coast departures.

3. U.S. West Coast (USWC) Market Conditions

While the West Coast remains the more stable gateway, it is currently experiencing a massive influx of cargo from shippers pivoting away from the East Coast.

Capacity: Vessel space and equipment (containers/chassis) are in high demand and increasingly limited.

Operational Constraints: Expect longer waiting times at terminals to secure equipment for loading.

We understand the challenges these delays and costs present to your supply chain. Our team is working around the clock to secure space and provide the most accurate ETAs possible.
